Q. Why Do Piercings Leak and What is the Crusty Stuff Around It?

A. Don't worry, this is perfectly normal, and appropriately nicknamed "crusties". Crusties are just the result of your body trying to heal itself. Dead blood cells and plasma surface, and then dry when exposed to air. They do need to be cleaned carefully and thoroughly whenever you notice them. After a couple weeks, you will see less or possibly even none of the crusties. Crusties are clear or pale yellow. If the ooze seeping from your piercing (dream tattoo dövme piercing bağdat caddesi kadıköy istanbul) hole is dark yellow, green or brown, however, it could indicate infection and you should see your piercer or your doctor right away.

Q. I think my piercing (dream tattoo dövme piercing bağdat caddesi kadıköy istanbul) is infected. Should I take the jewelry out?

A. No, the last thing you want to do is remove the jewelry. If your piercing (dream tattoo dövme piercing bağdat caddesi kadıköy istanbul) actually is infected, and you remove the jewerly, the bacteria and puss can get locked inside if the hole closes up. The solution to healing an infection is removing it - you need to keep the pierce open in order to allow the infection to drain. Infection can lead to other serious problems, so you should see your piercer or doctor to get recommendations on how to handle it.

Do Body Piercings Set Off Metal Detectors?

I get asked this question a lot – usually by those who don’t want their piercing(s) to be discovered. If you’re going to an airport, sporting event or anywhere else that a metal detector is involved, you might wonder if you’re going to end up setting off bells and whistles. It’s helpful, first, to understand how metal detectors work. and the reasons they are used for security purposes. Basically, a metal detector emits an electro-magnetic field that flows until it comes across something metallic. The metal object disrupts this flow in different ways, depending on its size and the type of metal. The metal detector is designed to give an audible signal when the field is disturbed. Security metal detectors are used to look for dangerous objects – knives, guns, explosives, etc. Adjustments can be made to the metal detector to determine how sensitive it is based on the level of security needed. If necessary, a metal detector could be set to detect a very small amount of metal. The problem with setting metal detectors to be over-sensitive is that it causes too many false alarms. Security areas at large public events would be completely congested with people setting off the alarms with keys, jewelry, pens, etc. It would make the job of actually finding dangerous objects nearly impossible. Therefore, metal detector sensitivity is usually not set that high. My most recent trip through airport security (September, 2006) which was extremely tight with its new rules about liquids and how many personal items you could carry on, my 8 piercings didn't cause any issues walking through the metal detector. Neither did my underwire bra. But the penny I failed to remove from my pocket was caught by both the walk-through and the wand. The wand also reacted to the metal buttons on my jeans, but not my piercings. In general, a few piercings usually does not pose a threat of setting off an alarm. However, with today’s heightened security, it is always a possibility. The risk increases with the more piercings you have or the larger gauge jewelry you wear in them. If you really don’t want to have to explain your piercing(s), your best option would probably be to remove the jewelry before you get there.* Have you ever set off a metal detector or know someone who did? Share your stories on the message board. *If your piercing (dream tattoo dövme piercing bağdat caddesi kadıköy istanbul) is new (less than 6 months) it is really not recommended that you remove your jewelry unless absolutely necessary. Even a healed piercing (dream tattoo dövme piercing bağdat caddesi kadıköy istanbul) can close up quickly and make replacing the jewelry difficult and painful. Since your chances of setting off the metal detector are very slim, it might be best to just risk it. However, if setting off an alarm could cause serious problems for whatever reason, and removing the jewelry is your only option, please let a professional help you put them back in.

Q. What is a Keloid and What Can be Done if You Have One?

A. Sometimes people get a blood or puss filled growth on a new piercing (dream tattoo dövme piercing bağdat caddesi kadıköy istanbul) and mistake this for a keloid. It is not. Keloids are actual scar tissue that forms because the body over-defends itself as a result of trauma or surgical incisions. Keloids have to be removed with the help of medical treatment or surgery - you can't just wash them away. People with African-American descent tend to be more prone to keloids, although people of all ethnicities can be susceptible. Keloids also tend to be genetic. If you are prone to keloiding, piercings are strongly urged against. Tattoos can also lead to keloiding, although piercings and surgical modifications seem to be the most likely culprits. There's no real limit as to where keloids can form, as they can also grow on the tongue and other mucus membranes. The only way to truly prevent keloiding is to not get the tattoo (dream tattoo dövme piercing (dream tattoo dövme piercing bağdat caddesi kadıköy istanbul) bağdat caddesi kadıköy istanbul) or piercing (dream tattoo dövme piercing bağdat caddesi kadıköy istanbul) in the first place. If you decide to chance it, just be aware that you may end up with excessive scarring and/or keloids.

Q. Does a nose piercing (dream tattoo dövme piercing bağdat caddesi kadıköy istanbul) have to be done with a CBR (ring)?

A. The reason most piercers recommend that you be pierced with a CBR is because it's so much easier to clean while your piercing (dream tattoo dövme piercing bağdat caddesi kadıköy istanbul) is healing. It's difficult to get around a stud (bone or screw) to clean it properly, and if it should happen to fall out you've got a whole new set of problems. A CBR moves easily, isn't hindered by swelling and you don't have the fear of it just falling out while you're sleeping or exercising. Once the piercing (dream tattoo dövme piercing bağdat caddesi kadıköy istanbul) is healed, then you can change to a more aesthetically pleasing piece of jewelry - or you might just decide you like the ring after all.

Q. If you get your tongue pierced, will you wake up with a mouthful of blood?

A. NO piercing (dream tattoo dövme piercing bağdat caddesi kadıköy istanbul) should cause an excessive amount of bleeding. If it does, something was done improperly and you should see a doctor if you can't get the bleeding to cease. Then once the bleeding stops, you need to see a professional piercer (preferably not the one you were pierced by) and have the piercing (dream tattoo dövme piercing bağdat caddesi kadıköy istanbul) examined to see if it was, in fact, done dangerously incorrect. It may be necessary to remove the piercing (dream tattoo dövme piercing bağdat caddesi kadıköy istanbul), allow it to heal and then repierce it properly at a later date.
